Hey there! Welcome back to The Internet Marketing Highway..you've obviously been here before but incase you haven't yet done so, why not subscribe to my

Affiliate marketing is a big part of my Internet business and the way that I make money online. This blog is monetized using affiliate schemes that I am a member of and I get a small commission if a visitor or reader of this blog buys a product through one of my links. Can’t get much more honest than that.
Affiliate marketing is probably one of the more well-documented areas of Internet marketing, yet so many people don’t make any money through this model.
Do you “know somebody” who uses affiliate schemes to make money online but doesn’t actually make any money at all? If so, read on…

So today I got myself a new iPhone 3GS with the sole purpose of making my Internet marketing work more mobile. Infact I am writing this very post from the WordPress app for iPhone which was so easy to set up (I’ll post a quick how-to guide asap).
Using this app I can see, amend, approve & trash any comments, blog posts, categories and pages on this blog. I can also add photos!
I will be posting a separate post showing you which apps can improve and increase your productivity online using iPhone.
In the meantime I’m off to download more apps and see how I can make my IM activites easier using what is now officially the greatest gadget of the 21st century to date.
I know that business owners in today’s environment are always looking to self-implement and do things themselves in order to save on costs and fees of getting things done professionally. Whilst I don’t agree with that model of business (I believe you should do what you love/know and get somebody else doing the rest) I like to see people learning more about things like SEO so that they can try to do it themselves.
I’ve written a quick elements guide here which shows basically how a website is structured, from an SEO point of view. It is intended for those who are new to SEO or who are trying to learn more about it.

One of my favourite tools that I use to update my Twitter and Facebook accounts easily is TweetDeck.
TweetDeck is no secret software and it is used by thousands (maybe millions) of Twitter users but I really think it is a fantastically easy way to boost your social networking productivity.

When a business owner decides that he/she wants to carry out a marketing campaign to boost their sales/presence etc, they most likely go and see a specialist “Marketing Consultant” who will charge them a fee for the meeting and for creating an initial marketing strategy plan document which will explain in detail what should be done over the course of 12-months or so in order to achieve the marketing aims of the business.

At the time of writing this post, it is currently 2.43am in London, UK (proving that ‘internet people’ are nocturnal).
I couldn’t wait until normal hours to publish this so here goes:

James Schramko
James Schramko is one of the world’s most prolific underground Internet marketers, bringing in a 7-figure income from his Internet marketing lab in Sydney, Australia..which just happens to be on the beach (no, i’m not jealous at all…i love rainy London).

Anyway, James has an absolutely amazing forum which is where I learn all the ‘tricks of the trade’ along with many of the world’s leading Internet marketing experts who have had huge success online. The forum, if you don’t already know of it, is called SuperFastResults
The SuperFastResults forum is a private forum which is by invitation only.
The reason why I decided to get this post published immediately was because James just emailed me and told me that he is offering a limited time preview to the forum for anybody who is serious about learning how to ‘do’ Internet marketing properly.
Something that i’ve picked up on through all the networking that I do (online and offline) is that people treat an online community massively different to an offline community, yet both are made up of the same people. It’s strange how human behaviour changes just because the engagement and contact is through a screen as opposed to being face-to-face.
An example used in a book I recently read by MD of the world’s largest joined-up networking organisation, 4Networking, makes this point perfectly:
You wouldn’t walk into a pub or a party (or any social scenario), find the first person that looks like a potential client and start hard-selling to them. It just wouldn’t happen….and if it did, you’d not have many friends at that event because you would be avoided like the plague. Nobody would buy from you and by the end of the event you would be disillusioned and probably conclude that the event wasn’t any good.
Yet so many people who wouldn’t do the above in ‘real life’ do it all the time online – in forums, blogs and on social networks (especially on Twitter), and then they complain that “social networking doesn’t work”. I wonder why!
My advice is to treat the online community the same as you would a group of people at a party or at the pub. Build a relationship, build trust, offer value, offer advice and have a laugh too. Some of the best business relationships can be formed at a party, purely because there is a good level of rapport and a mixture of business and social chit-chat. Nobody likes boring business talk all the time, mix it up a bit.
I read a great blog on the WDL blog recently by Jacqueline Thomas about the design trends for web in 2010…
1. Oversized Logos/ Headers
Splash pages are so yesterday. To make an unforgettable impression on the visitor, the trend for 2010 will be oversized logos on an equally oversized header. These types of headers can take up the entire screen, but with one important note. Visitors will not need to click anything, just scroll down. Visitors often having a clicking phobia (due to years of poor navigation), so big headers do the job of a splash page without forcing your visitors to click anything.
Main Idea: Huge headers that make your visitors remember you.

2. Sketch/ Hand-drawn Design
Hand-drawn design is not exactly new on the horizon, but we all know that it is still on the fringes of web design. Many designers admire the style but are afraid to create their own sketches because of the “I can’t really draw” attitude. If you look at the most popular hand-drawn websites (and relative to other types of trends, there are only a few), you will notice that most of your fellow designers can’t draw. These designs are not exactly headed to an art museum, but they do convey a sense of whimsy, and blur the line between cold web and personal interaction– the ultimate goal of the internet. If you can doodle, you can sketch for web design.
Sketch in 2010 will become more elemental, and not as much the main focus of a web design. It will be used to personalize standard web copy in new and exciting ways.
Main Idea: Sketch becomes an elemental part of corporate design.
